The reason I have nothing to say today

The Girl Who Drank the Moon

not only knocked my sox off, it put them in the laundry basket and brought me my shark slippers.

This book is so wonderful I don't want it to end so I'm reading as slowly as I can (and not writing blog posts.)

Even if you don't read YA or fantasy this book is not to be missed.

The writing is superlative, and every author can get a lot of value from watching how Kelly Barnhill does even the simplest things (like character names) with deft perfection.

This isn't going to be a contest prize (sorry guyz) cause I can't wait to send it to my nieces. They're too young yet, but soon! Soon!

To reid or not to reid 'tis the duty of the day.
Perhaps we all should take a day to reid or write or do what's write.
Reid on dear Reider and enjoy.

My TBR list just kicked you, Janet. :)

Have a lovely time reading.

LOVE that book. My 5th graders dubbed it Fake News: Fairy Forest Edition, which is both apt and a bit of a sad reflection about the world in which they're growing up.

Just signed up to read it from the library. Thank you for the recommendation!

If the cover reflects the story I will probably like it! Enjoy the reading!

My TBR list just devoured me. Is it Friday yet?

I love that book so much! And the audiobook is fantastic as well. Happy reading, Janet!

Yes! I've been immersing myself in MG and YA. This was/is a standout. Also, author Lauren Wolk: Beyond the Bright Sea, Wolf Hollow...

So many extraordinary books. All over the dang place.

I have bought more books sight-unseen because of your suggestions. This is one more. Thank you for all your recommendations. I've found some of my favorite books this way. :)

Melanie: Wolf Hollow is on my nightstand, but I can't get to it yet because I'm in the middle of Pax (Sara Pennypacker) and Between Shades of Gray (Ruta Sepetys). And on the audiobook front I'm listening to Salt to the Sea (also by Ruta Sepetys).

Gorgeous cover and shark-recommended so there's really no choice.

Hitting buy now.

Fun! One of my favorite reads this year is INSIGNIFICANT EVENTS IN THE LIFE OF A CACTUS (MG, realistic fiction) by Dusti Bowling. Come for the title, stay for - and love! - the story. :)

Did anyone else here take Benjamin Leroy up on his You volunteer, I edit offer? I did. I needed a stranger's honest opinion of my writing, and he liked my 25 pages. So, thank you, Janet, for that info!

I loved this one. I cried. I immediately re-read it, then read it to all my kids.

It filled me with joy that people are telling stories this beautifully, and weep with despair that my work falls far short of this.

I was at a party where someone was bemoaning how horrible all books are these days, and I wanted to whack them with this book. Except that wouldn't have been fair to the book.

The way she uses unexpected consequences to break your heart...Best book of 2016.

Yes! I read this book earlier this year, and it is so fantastic. I'm a little mad that I couldn't talk my boys into reading it. It's beautiful.

Perhaps I should look into lighter and more fun reading. The news has been dragging at me and doing nasty things to my sense of humor.

Kitty: I took Mr. LeRoy up on his offer. I haven't received his opinion yet. I'm trying to tell my writer brain that he suddenly found himself loaded with things to critique, and he'll get back to me when he reaches mine (he made an update to his offer page saying that), but my writing brain is all "It sucks! It must really suck, and he just can't bring himself to say so, so he's never going to respond!"

Because writer brain sucks.

I read this book a few months ago and I have to say it was incredible. I loved it start to finish.

Thanks! Just the other day I bemoaned how disappointing my TBE pile had been lately. Will source this and improve my health.

I tried to solicit the kind help of Ben, only to discover I'd delayed my request. Still, I shall continue to volunteer in my community.

After I read about girls drinking moons.

I've read this gem as well. Well worth it. :)

My 8-year-old burst into tears at the end of THE GIRL WHO DRANK THE MOON because she was so sad it was over. What a wonderful story!
